Visitor Limitations

Central Michigan Community Hospital (CMCH) is making strong recommendations for the safety of patients and visitors during this cold and flu season. The following recommendations are effective immediately:

     · Visitors for pediatric patients are limited to well parents and well grandparents only.

    · Visitors to the Family Birthing Center (OB) will be limited to a patient’s well husband, significant
       other/support person, and well grandparents.

    · Visitors for all other areas in the hospital are limited to one well adult per patient.

    · No visitors under the age of 18.

    · Pregnant women (not seeking medical care) should not visit patients.

    · If you are experiencing signs and symptoms of a respiratory illness (such as fever, cough, sore
throat, runny nose, and/or body aches) and are seeking treatment, please wear a mask.

We apologize for the inconvenience, and thank you for your assistance in helping to keep patients and visitors safe!

HOW THE FLU SPREADS:
Flu viruses are thought to spread mainly from person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of people with influenza. Sometimes people may become infected by touching something with flu viruses on it and then touching their mouth or nose.

STAYING HEALTHY:
Here are a few tips to help you stay healthy:

  • Most important: Wash your hands!
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze
  • Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
  • Try not to touch surfaces that may have the flu viruses on them.

SYMPTOMS OF FLU:
Influenza symptoms may include:

  • Fever (often over 100 degrees)
  • Headache
  • Extreme tiredness
  • Dry cough
  • Sore throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Muscle aches
  • Stomach symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, can also occur but are more common in children than adults.

TESTING FOR FLU:
CMCH (like all local hospitals) does not have the capability to test and confirm for the H1N1 virus. Only the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Michigan Department of Community Health can test and confirm cases. CMCH does have the capability to test for seasonal strains of the flu (influenza A and B). The CDC recommends that any individual with flu-like symptoms seeking medical treatment receive the same treatment protocol regardless of whether they have seasonal flu or H1N1.

For more information about H1N1, please visit the Central Michigan District Health Department’s web site at www.cmdhd.org or the Center for Disease Control at www.cdc.gov.
